I have always shown an aptitude for math and had teachers in grade school and high school who recognized my capability of grasping its concepts. I was impressed with math, the concepts that it brought across and the reasoning that it used. Previously, pursuing a mathematics degree seemed somewhat intimidating. When I entered college, my pursuits were to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. During my sophomore year, I decided to become a Mathematics major after being advised by a few of my female professors who shared their passion of mathematics. They inspired me and gave me encouragement that I could do the same.

After graduating from Oakwood, I plan to go to graduate school for my master’s degree in mathematics. But first, I would like to go to Spain for a few months and become fluent in Spanish. Then when I come back, for either about six months or one year, I would like to gain experience by working. I am interested in applying math to the computer science field, which is my minor. I am, however, open to its applications to other fields, as well. The sequences of math that interest me the most are calculus and linear algebra – in particular the topics of integration, optimization, and linear transformations.
